Released in 1986, Top Gun became a defining aviation film, introducing audiences to Maverick and the demanding world of the elite Top Gun fighter-pilot training programme. Its combination of aerial action, memorable characters and themes of ambition, loyalty and personal courage has helped the film remain a much-loved part of popular culture.

The franchise received a new chapter with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, bringing Maverick's story to a new generation while reinforcing the lasting appeal of the original film. This anniversary coin pays tribute to four decades of the franchise with a striking aviation-themed composition.

Struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin combines precious-metal appeal with imagery instantly recognisable to fans of Top Gun, making it a distinctive addition to collections of movie memorabilia and themed bullion and proof coins.

Design

The coloured reverse places the iconic Top Gun logo at the centre of the design. A fighter jet is positioned above the logo, pointing towards the sky, while the inscription ‘40 YEARS’ appears below. A dramatic blue and red cloudy sky creates the backdrop, complemented by the inscription ‘I FEEL THE NEED…THE NEED FOR SPEED’ and The Perth Mint's ‘P’ mintmark.

The obverse features the Jody Clark effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, accompanied by the coin's weight, fineness, monetary denomination and 2026 year-date.

Presentation

The encapsulated coin is housed in a clear acrylic presentation block, that allows display and observation from both sides. The coin and its housing come enclosed in a shipper that is dramatically illustrated with a fighter jet flying against a backdrop of red and blue clouds, and the Top Gun logo.
