The Chinese lunar calendar follows a 12-year cycle, with each year associated with a different animal. The Goat occupies the eighth position in the zodiac and is traditionally associated with qualities such as creativity, compassion, calmness and resilience.

According to the traditional lunar legend, the animals competed in a great race to determine their places in the calendar. The Goat travelled alongside the Monkey and Rooster, and the three animals worked together to cross a challenging river. Through determination and cooperation, the Goat reached the opposite bank and secured eighth place in the lunar cycle.

Design

The design also incorporates the Chinese character for ‘Goat’, the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’ and The Perth Mint's traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The obverse features the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
