First released in 1986, Top Gun became one of the most recognisable aviation films in cinema, introducing audiences to Maverick and the high-pressure world of elite fighter-pilot training. The story returned to cinemas for a new generation with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, continuing Maverick's journey and adding to the franchise's cinematic legacy. The 40th anniversary of the original film provides the inspiration for this uniquely shaped silver collectible.

Struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, this coin is shaped to replicate the iconic Top Gun logo. Its unusual silhouette, coloured detailing and anniversary inscriptions make it particularly suited to collectors looking for something beyond a traditional round coin.

Design

The coin itself follows the distinctive shape of the Top Gun logo. Its coloured reverse highlights the bold logo design, with the inscriptions ‘1986*2026’ positioned to the left and ‘40 YEARS’ to the right. The Perth Mint's ‘P’ mintmark is also incorporated into the design.

The obverse features the Jody Clark effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, accompanied by the coin's weight, fineness, monetary denomination and 2026 year-date. A wing pattern inspired by the Top Gun logo is incorporated on both sides of the effigy, creating a visual connection between the obverse and reverse.

Presentation

The encapsulated coin is housed in a clear acrylic presentation block, that allows display and observation from both sides. The coin and its housing come enclosed in a shipper that is dramatically illustrated with a fighter jet flying against a backdrop of red and blue clouds, and the Top Gun logo.
