First released in 1986, Top Gun became a defining film of its era, combining high-speed aerial action with a story centred on ambition, rivalry, friendship and personal courage. The film introduced audiences to Maverick, a talented fighter pilot whose time at the elite Top Gun school tests both his flying ability and his character.

Forty years later, the franchise continues to hold a special place in popular culture. The story returned to the big screen with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, bringing Maverick's journey into a new generation and further establishing the franchise's place in cinematic history.

This 1g gold rectangular coin commemorates the 40th anniversary with a design that places the instantly recognisable Top Gun branding at its centre, making it an attractive keepsake for collectors of film memorabilia and precious-metal coins alike.

Design

The reverse features the iconic Top Gun logo prominently at the centre, accompanied by the inscription ‘40 YEARS’ beneath it. A cloudy sky forms the backdrop, creating an aviation-inspired setting for the anniversary design.
