According to Chinese tradition, the emperor decreed a great race across the Earth to determine the twelve positions in the lunar cycle. Hot on the heels of the seventh-placed horse, the gentle yet steadfast goat journeyed alongside the lively monkey and spirited rooster. Facing a wide, rushing river near the finish line, the three united to brave the currents together. Driven by a calm determination, the goat led the charge, reached the far bank first, and crossed the line alongside its companions to secure eighth place from the emperor.
Those born under the Lunar Year of the Goat—including 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979, and every 12th preceding year—are known to be gentle souls blessed with an innate gift for compassion and creativity. Their quiet resilience and serene presence make them steady anchors in turbulent times, matching a deep appreciation for beauty with an artistic eye. As they move through life with grace, it is their thoughtful nature that draws others to them.
Design
The reverse shares a peaceful family portrait of a mature goat, a young goat, and a baby goat grazing in harmony, beautifully accented with selective gold plating. This gentle scene honors the traditional sentiment "Three Goats Bring Bliss", signaling winter's departure and the dawn of a vibrant spring. A delicate plum blossom tree frames the composition, representing purity and hope, alongside the Chinese character for 'Goat', the 'GOAT 2027' text, and the 'P' mintmark. The obverse features the contemporary effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Dan Thorne, complete with weight, purity, and monetary denomination.
Presentation
Protected in a secure capsule, each coin comes integrated into a specially produced, illustrated presentation card designed exclusively for the Beijing International Coin Exposition. The wallet-sized format makes it both a stunning display piece and a highly portable, elegant collector's keepsake.
