From ancient mountain ranges to sweeping deserts, Australia is renowned for its extraordinary and diverse landscapes. Spanning approximately 7.68 million square kilometres, the continent is home to dramatic gorges, tropical rainforests, pristine coastlines and the iconic red outback. This vast environment supports an incredible array of wildlife, with scientists estimating between 600,000 and 700,000 native species. Many exist nowhere else on Earth, making Australia's unique ecosystems among the planet's most valuable natural environments.

Design

Inspired by the remarkable wildlife of the Australian outback, the reverse portrays a vibrant natural scene filled with some of the country's most recognisable animals. Standing proudly on a rocky outcrop is a watchful dingo, while two emus occupy the riverbed below, one bending to drink from the water's edge. Nearby, a snake rests coiled on a sunlit rock as a crocodile glides from the water. Three kangaroos leap across the rugged terrain, and above them a majestic wedge-tailed eagle circles overhead. Completing the backdrop is a striking mountain range stretching into the distance.

The design also features The Perth Mint's renowned 'P' mintmark together with the 2026 year-date.

The obverse displays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, accompanied by the coin's weight, purity and monetary denomination. Encircling the design, the outer border is decorated with beautifully detailed illustrations of native Australian flora, providing an elegant finishing touch.
