Four-Coin Set

This spectacular Quadrant Ox set consists of four coins that each comprise one quarter of a circle. When arranged together the coins form a circle with a square in the centre reminiscent of the first currency of the Chinese empire. These ‘ban liang’ coins were first cast during the Qin Dynasty around 200BCE. The four contemporary releases portray a unified composition comprising five oxen in a rural Chinese landscape with select coloured elements.

In Chinese lunar tradition, the Year of the Ox commences on 12 February 2021. People born under the influence of the ox, which previously ruled during 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997 and 2009, are said to be kind, intelligent, hardworking, honest and reliable.

Four-Piece Design

The four coin designs in this set depict: an ox ploughing a field with mountains in the background. A pair of oxen and a dragonfly in front of a tree. An adult ox standing on grass with a dragonfly and a calf laying on the grass. Together they form a single composition comprising an appealing mix of superbly coloured and struck elements. 

Each coin’s reverse includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. The obverse of each coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, its weight and purity, monetary denomination and the 2021 year-date. 

Presentation Packaging
