Mythical dragons hold a profound place in global culture, though their symbolism differs vastly between East and West. While Western folklore traditionally portrays the creature as a formidable, winged monster breathing destructive fire, Chinese mythology holds it in high esteem. The Eastern dragon is revered as an auspicious, celestial deity that personifies strength, wisdom, prosperity, and harmony.
Regarded as a guardian of the natural world, this majestic being is believed to command the rain, rivers, and heavens. Unlike its Western counterpart, the Asian dragon is celebrated for its elegant, serpentine posture adorned with brilliant, intricate scales and flowing whiskers—serving as a timeless symbol of imperial authority and exceptional good fortune.
This rectangular silver coin masterfully captures that powerful symbolism.
Design
The design showcases the dragon's regal, undulating silhouette, finished in distinctive, fiery golden and red colours that highlight a masterful level of craftsmanship. Fine detailing across the dragon's body highlights its individual scales and creates a strong sense of movement and texture. The golden colouring gives the mythical creature a commanding presence against the silver coin.
The design incorporates the 2026 year-date and The Perth Mint's traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
The obverse carries the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, accompanied by the inscription ‘CHARLES III AUSTRALIA’ and details of the coin's weight, silver purity and monetary denomination.
Presentation
The rectangular coin is enclosed in a protective capsule and presented in a intricately illustrated red and gold coloured dragon-themed presentation card, which incorporates a fold-out stand for upright display. The chinese symbol for the dragon and the words "Golden Dragon 2026" complete this presentation.
Authentication Feature
An additional security feature has been incorporated into the rectangular coin in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. The minute mark is designed to be detectable only when viewed under a magnifying glass, providing an additional means of authentication.
